He succeeded and started production in Cape Breton, in the highlands of Nova Scotia, in 1990. The first own single malt whiskey appeared in 2000 and was 8 years old. A 9 year old followed later. Glen Breton's flagship is now 10 years old. Glen Breton 10 years matured the entire time in ex bourbon casks.
